Bahrain and Turkmenistan wish to strengthen their bilateral relations and cooperation in business and investment.
This comes as the Second Deputy Speaker of the Bahrain Chamber, Mohammed Al Kooheji, alongside Executive Committee Member Ahmed Alsaloom and Board Member Yousuf Salahuddin, called a meeting with the Turkmen Deputy Minister yesterday. of Foreign Affairs B. Myatiyev at the seat of the Chamber.
Myatiyev was accompanied by Deputy Chairman of State Concern “Turkmenhimiya” D. Shamedov and Representative of the House of Turkmenistan Atanepes Belliyev. The meeting commended the bilateral relationship between Bahrain and Turkmenistan, recalling the historic visit of former President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov to Bahrain in 2011, and the visit of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to Turkmenistan in March 2019, which saw the signing of important agreements and memoranda aimed at boosting cooperation between the two countries.
Mr. Alkooheji expressed the desire of the Bahraini private sector to strengthen trade relations with Turkmenistan. However, he pointed out that lengthy travel procedures, logistical hurdles and lack of knowledge of investment laws and regulations are major hurdles hampering business cooperation between the two countries.
Mr. B. Myatiyev reiterated pride in the high-level relations between Bahrain and Turkmenistan, and affirmed that laws and regulations on investment in Turkmenistan have been updated to attract foreign investment.
He revealed that over the past few years, Turkmenistan has managed to attract more than $8 billion in foreign investment, adding that his country is developing major projects that require foreign investment, including a nitrogen and methanol plant. .
He called on Bahraini business owners and investors to visit Turkmenistan, learn about incentives for foreign investors and explore opportunities. He also pledged to make every effort to streamline the efforts of business owners and improve trade between Bahrain and Turkmenistan to the desired level.
A delegation from the Bahrain Chamber accompanied His Majesty the King during his visit to Turkmenistan in March 2019, and the Chamber successfully organized a joint business forum in November of the same year.
