Chinese, Peruvian foreign ministers hail bilateral ties in telephone talks

Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Thursday that regardless of the development of the international situation, Sino-Peruvian relations have developed steadily and have become a “forerunner” in Sino-US relations. .

Wang made the remarks during a telephone conversation with Peruvian Foreign Minister Oscar Maurtua.

China and Peru celebrated the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic ties last month.

Wang said China is ready to work with Peru to advance the two countries’ comprehensive strategic partnership to a higher level.

He also congratulated Peru on the 200th anniversary of its independence.

Wang said the two countries share broad common interests and the South-South cooperation they practice benefits both sides.

Peru is an active defender of multilateralism and an important defender of the rights and interests of developing countries, he said.

China supports Peru in hosting the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) in 2024 and is willing to work for further progress in APEC cooperation.

Maurtua agreed with Wang that bilateral relations had reached a new level.

He said Peru sincerely thanked China for its support in the Latin American nation’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and was willing to strengthen cooperation in healthcare and the resumption of work and production. .

Peru will continue to firmly pursue the one-China policy, he said.

He also thanked China for its support for Peru to host APEC in 2024.
