Cairo, October 11 (IANS) Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi and his South Sudanese counterpart President Salva Kiir held intensive bilateral talks to strengthen bilateral relations at the political, economic and security levels.
Speaking at a press conference after their meeting in Cairo on Sunday, Sisi said he also referred to the momentum gained by relations between the two countries over the past period in various areas of cooperation, the agency reports. Xinhua Press Release.
“We have been following the results of the first round of the Joint Senior Committee which met in Cairo in July 2021 and the opportunities it has brought in terms of coordination and consultation,” he said at the conference. Press.

Sisi said they agreed on the importance of giving new impetus to bilateral relations to broaden their horizons of cooperation by increasing the rate of trade between the two countries, increasing Egyptian investments in South Sudan and by facilitating access to Egyptian exports.
The President reaffirmed that Egypt will always remain a firm supporter of South Sudan and will continue its efforts in support of all means to promote peace, stability and development there.
Sisi also confirmed Egypt’s full support for Kiir’s efforts to achieve peace in the country and the efforts of various parties to move forward on the path of implementing the stages of the transition period, in accordance with The Revitalized Agreement on Conflict Resolution in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCSS).
“We also exchanged views on a host of current regional and international issues of mutual interest, primarily ongoing developments in the East Africa and Horn of Africa region, and means of containing their possible repercussions on the rest of the countries of the region, “said the Egyptian. said the president.
The talks also focused on various aspects relevant to the Nile water problems, the ongoing coordination between the two countries in this regard and the current developments of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) dossier.
“I stressed the importance of reaching a legally binding agreement that regulates the filling and operation of the dam, based on the rules of international law and UN Security Council resolutions on the matter.
“This will promote stability in the whole region and open up wider prospects for cooperation among the countries of the Nile basin,” Sisi noted.
