ISLAMABAD: Senate Speaker Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani said on Friday that Pakistan wants to further strengthen bilateral relations with Azerbaijan by promoting parliamentary and economic ties.
During a meeting with Azerbaijani Ambassador Khazar Farhadov here in Parliament, he said the two countries have vast opportunities for cooperation in trade, education, energy, health and other fields . Parliamentarians from both countries could play an important role in bringing the two nations closer together, he added.
Senators Dilawar Khan, Zeeshan Khanzada and Naseebullah Bazai were also present at the meeting. Bilateral relations, issues of mutual interest and the regional situation were discussed and emphasis was placed on increasing the volume of bilateral trade between the two countries. The Senate Speaker said the launch of direct flights between Pakistan and Azerbaijan was an important development and would boost tourism and people-to-people contacts.
Sadiq Sanjrani said Pakistan and Azerbaijan are bound by eternal ties of religion, brotherhood and history.
He said Azerbaijan’s support for Pakistan’s position on Kashmir was commendable. “Pakistan wants to extend the CPEC project to roads in Central Asia. The CPEC project enables Central Asian states, including Azerbaijan, to use the port of Gwadar to boost trade in the region.
The envoy said that Azerbaijan wants to further expand its relations with Pakistan and that parliamentary diplomacy could play an important role in strengthening bilateral relations.
