Tehran (Armradio) – On an official visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran, Speaker of the Armenian National Assembly Alen Simonyan had a meeting with Speaker of the Iranian Majles (Parliament) Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf.
Top lawmakers from both countries discussed Armenian-Iranian inter-parliamentary relations.
The parties stressed that the partnership between the two countries is based on age-old friendship and good-neighborly relations and expressed their willingness to deepen bilateral relations.
Referring to the negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf stressed the preservation of the territorial integrity of the two countries and the establishment of a lasting peace.
Alen Simonyan spoke about the recent Azerbaijani-Turkish aggression against Nagorno-Karabakh and its consequences.
He noted that many humanitarian issues remain unresolved after the war, especially the return of prisoners of war and the preservation of Armenian historical, cultural and spiritual heritage in the territories passed under the control of Azerbaijan.
“Azerbaijan’s encroachments on Armenia’s sovereign territory jeopardize our efforts aimed at regional stability and security. In this regard, we highly appreciate Iran’s stance on territorial integrity and inviolability of borders,” Simonyan added.
During the meeting, the parties also discussed the challenges in the field of transport and transit and the ways of their solution.
At the end of the meeting, Alen Simonyan invited his colleague to Armenia for an official visit.
